    "description": "Two meltwater streams were chosen (one in the colony and one out of the colony) to investigate the role of summertime meltwater flow from the Cape Bird Ice Cap in the transfer of metal and nutrients from penguin colonies to the sea. A total of 240 water samples (grab sampling) were taken at 10 locations (five on each stream) over a 16 day period (six discrete samplings). Water samples will be analysed for dissolved metals and total recoverable metals through inductively-coupled mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and nutrient concentrations (such as nitrate, ammonium, phosphate) through ion chromatography (IC) or FIA. Stream sediment samples were also taken from each water sampling location (10 in total across the two streams) and sediment composition will be analysed through x-ray fluorescence (XRF) and x-ray diffraction (XRD).\n\nGET DATA: toneill@waikato.ac.nz",
