These data were used in combination with the scaled images of suspended frazil crystals which were taken at the same hydrohole (see cross-referenced record).\n\nThe Acoustic Zooplankton Fish Profiler (AZFP) is a four-frequency acoustic profiler that measures the amount of backscattered acoustic energy (volumetric backscatter, Sv) in the water column. These data can be combined with other oceanographic observations to model the amount of frazil ice crystals present in the water column. The AZFP was deployed through a hydro hole at a depth of approximately 40 m in an upward looking configuration.\n\nThe AZFP measurements link with the research objectives of Antarctic and High Latitude Climate (NIWA SSIF), specifically observe and improve understanding of physical ice-ocean processes. This instrument was last deployed in 2018 and those data will be analysed alongside the 2022 data by Nina Caldarella as part of their PhD. Analysis will build on the work of Frazer et al. (2020) from 2017 data.\n\nFrazil camera episodically shows up in the AZFP data as short backscatter peaks at 8 meters depth.\n\nGET DATA: natalie.robinson@vuw.ac.nz", "keywords":[ "K892A","AZFP","Earth Science | Oceans | Sea Ice","Land-Based Platforms | Field Sites","In Situ\/Laboratory Instruments | Profilers\/Sounders","Continent | Antarctica | Mcmurdo Sound","ASP" ] ,"creator": [ { "@type":"Person" ,"name": "Robinson, N." ,"email": ["natalie.robinson@vuw.ac.nz"] ,"contactPoint": { "@type" : "PostalAddress" } } ] ,"publisher": [ { "@type":"Organization" ,"name": "New Zealand Antarctic Science Platform" ,"email": ["natalie.robinson@vuw.ac.nz"] ,"contactPoint": { "@type" : "PostalAddress" } } ] ,"distribution": [ { "@type":"DataDownload", "contentUrl": "https:\/\/antcat.antarcticanz.govt.nz\/geonetwork\/srv\/api\/records\/7789730f-4cd7-46b0-bb37-1074d1b28de4", "encodingFormat": "WWW:LINK-1.0-http--link", "name": "Distribution Metadata" }] ,"encodingFormat": [ ] ,"spatialCoverage": [ {"@type":"Place", "description": [ ], "geo": [ {"@type":"GeoShape", "box": "-77.92 166.50 -77.85 166.83" } ] }] ,"temporalCoverage": [ "2022-11-17/2022-11-24" ] ,"license": [ { "@type": "CreativeWork", "name": "This data set conforms to the CC BY Attribution License (https:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by\/4.0\/)" } ] , "citation": "Robinson, N., ( ) Acoustic Frazil Ice Measurements, McMurdo Sound, 2022.
