    "description": "This metadata record describes remotely operated vehicle (ROV) transects conducted at Lake Fryxell and Lake Bonney during the 2023 field season to measure physical and biological properties of lake environments. ROV surveys were used to quantify ice thickness and transparency, and to document depth-related transitions in microbial mat morphology. Transects were completed at 0.1 m depth intervals between 10.5 m and 8.5 m, with 10-minute vertical imaging sequences and laser scaling providing an offset of approximately 40 cm. Additional video transects supported float-mat experiments, recording depth, ice thickness, mat type, and floater cover.
