    "description": "Deployment of 12 sea ice trackers (SVPs=Surface Velocity Profilers) on sea ice in McMurdo Sound, Antarctica was undertaken in November 2022 (2 trackers), November 2023 (6 new trackers and redployment of 1 tracker that did not break out in 2022\/2023), November 2024 (4 trackers), and November 2025 (3 trackers). The aim was to investigate polynya processes by capturing the annual cycle of sea ice breakout and drift. GPS position data have been transmitted via Iridium satellite since November 2022. Data are transmitted at user-controlled variable time periods between 10 minutes and 12 hours. The raw GPS position files associated with each buoy are provided in tab delimited format. These data were collected in partnership between the University of Otago and the New Zealand Antarctic Science Platform, with data transmission costs paid for by the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) in Germany.\n\nGET DATA: inga.smith@otago.ac.nz",
