    "description": "This dataset describes soil samples collected from geothermally heated soils at Hut Cave, Mount Erebus, Antarctica, during the 2025 field season for the cultivation of photosynthetic microorganisms. The samples were collected as part of a broader research programme investigating how photosynthetic microorganisms inhabiting geothermal soils on Mount Erebus survive the annual polar winter, including prolonged periods of darkness. The Hut Cave samples represent a low-temperature site and were obtained to isolate and culture photosynthetic microorganisms present in these soils for subsequent laboratory study.
